Book Haul + A Giveaway

October Was a great month for books, at least it was for me. So of course I am going to spread the love a bit and have a giveaway! But before we get to that let me show you what I was lucky enough to get my  grubby little goblin hands on.

  1. The Midnight Dunes (The Landkist Saga #3) by Steven Kelliher

Steven sent over an E-ARC of the third book in his Landkist saga. I don’t know if his time as a UFC fighter helped but the battle scenes in this series are written very well. Go pick up a copy of Valley of Embers if you haven’t already got it.

  1. Black Guild (Black Powder Wars, #2) by JP. Ashman

My Cactus loving goblin buddy sent me the digital ARC for his eagerly awaited second installment in his fantastic flintlock fantasy series the Black Powder Wars.  Check out the new cover Pen Astridge aka The Mighty Pen just finished for book one.

  1. The Infernal Battalion (The Shadow Campaigns #5) by Django Wexler

I have to thank the publisher (Ace)  for this one.  I admit I already finished this a few days ago. This has been a great series from the start and to be honest this is the best one yet! One of the most satisfying series ends that I have read in years.

by Adrian Collins, Mark Alder, R. Scott Bakker, Bradley P. Beaulieu, Michael R. Fletcher, T. Frohock , Alex Marshall, Peter Orullian, Jeff Salyards, Courtney Schafer, Shawn Speakman ,Brian Staveley, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Marc Turner, Matthew Ward, Kaaron Warren, Mazarkis Williams, Deborah A. Wolf, Janny Wurts, E.V. Morrigan

I backed this as a Kickstarter last year and received my beautiful hardcover copy a few weeks ago. Then last week I got a magical mystery paperback in the mail. Neither  I nor Adrian know why I got it but since I don’t need 2 of them…. Yup you guessed correctly this is the giveaway!

Open to all. Just comment below to enter . While not necessary to share this post it is appreciated! You don’t need to have a account to comment but it will ask for an email. I don’t care if you give a made up email but if you are the randomly selected winner you will have 24 hours to respond to the notice I send you. After that I will randomly select someone else. The contest will end and the winner will be chosen Friday the first of December.

Good Luck!

Time for a Book Haul or as I like to call it A.T.L.A.S.

I haven’t done a A.T.L.A.S. Adding to Large Ass Stack  post in a while So here goes..

1.First up is an ARC of Revenant Winds by Mitchel Hogan. I really enjoyed his Sorcery Ascendant Sequence    So, I have high hopes for this one. Mitchell told me it will be on sale September 7th with a simultaneous release on Audible.

2. I was one of the winners (Yay Me!) of the full Jesse Teller Library I talked about in my Interview with him last month. So even though I have read one and had another that’s still 2 new books for me! Thanks Jesse and Rebekah for Mestlven, and Legends of Perilisc

3.      An ebook of The Holtur Enigma first book in a trilogy by Cameron Wayne Smith that you can get free right now. And not just for KU subscribers EVERYONE can get this book free right now at this link

4. Blades of the Fallen by Ross Harrison, releasing on August 1st. It is the third book in a series, but he told me it is more of a connected universe than a series, the books all stand alone. So, I said I would have a look.

5. Another ARC this one called Broken Wizards by Jeffrey Bardwell. This actually looks really cool. It is Steampunk and magic at war.

6. Mistress of Crystals: Chronicles of the Second War of the Gods
by Justyna Plichta-Jendzio This one might be good if the Polish to English translation was done as well as the Witcher books.

Now we are getting to the books that you, my wonderful reader, might win a signed copy of. I will be doing a series of interviews and giveaways for some of the authors in the #SPFBO contest run by the one and only Mark Lawrence. Here are the first 3 that I have but more will be coming soon. Also I have been working on making a body for Bob, so he can help out more. Do me a favor and tell him how good he is looking in the comments. (and for gods sake don’t mention Shakespeare in any way!)

7.  The Thirteen Treasures of Britain (Merlin’s Last Magic, #1)
by Jennifer M. Baldwin She sent me a copy as well as one for the giveaway so Thank you again!

He still only has one hand but he is trying.

8. A Threat of Shadows (The Keeper Chronicles #1)
by J.A. Andrews

9.And Last but not least A Star-Reckoner’s Lot (A Star-Reckoner’s Legacy, #1)
by Darrell Drake I have heard some really good things about this one, and with the goblin quotes he wrote I think I might just have to keep this copy and order another one for the giveaway. The author also asked me if I have ever played a game called Styx, a stealth game where you are a goblin. I had not heard of it but have now put in about 20 hours so… Curse you Darrell Drake!!! And thanks man I love the game. DSC_1163

I went on a Hike with my New Sister

I was walking out of the house this morning to go for a hike, and I saw the Mail Lady was coming down the street. So just like every time I am expecting something I ran up to her as if it was an Ice cream truck And I was a kid in Arizona whose Step Mom had just

locked me out of the house for 5 hours in the summer… What? …oh um… yes, it’s a great Metaphor I uhm Just made it up…… Nevertheless, I was Excited because I have an order of rings due any day now.  I was also hoping Red Sister by Mark Lawrence would come.

Although I am still unable to finish my Chainmail shirt, I am more than pleased to say that Nona Gray, not only went hiking with me, but we also did a bit of a photo shoot.

A good post trust me you will have emotions of some kind while reading

Around 2005 my brother got out of Prison and i let him move in to  our guest house. We didn’t really get along but we managed. Then in  2010 my neighbors work  truck crashed in to the house at 2am. It went through the wall so hard that it hit my youngest sons bed and launched it into the air to smash on top of my oldest sons bed. My wife our 3 kids and I were not home. It was Easter Sunday and we had stayed over at my in-laws. Both of my boys would have most likely been killed and we had a huge hole in our house. They were so drunk they ran home but one passed out in a yard a few houses down the other was walking up and down the street looking for his phone he had left in the truck when the police got there. So I wanted to move right away. but the Insurance co wouldn’t pay for it until the police investigation was completed. So I was really stressed out.

But then we were told the truck had $200 in counterfeit cash in it so the secret service told the police to back off while they did surveillance on the guys and the company they worked for. So I was basically told that I would have to live 8 houses down from criminals that would have killed 2 of my kids if we had been home. while living in a house with no front wall while these two fuckers where left un-arrested and would slow down in front of my house and then peal out every day.  Trying or scare us or something.

After a week and a half I said Fuck it and we left I packed up as much as I could in one load and we just walked away from it and got a condo. The reason I am saying this is because I spent all day going through my brothers storage unit that he hasn’t paid the last year or so. My brother owed like $1700 but The storage place made a deal with my mom if we paid $500 we could get the stuff out  and she has a bunch of stuff in there and all of my Grandmothers things are in there as well. It is a huge 20′ X 10′ and 12′ tall  it was packed full.

I only got about half way in today, But I found a bunch of my old stuff that we had just left. My mig welder and a bunch of other tools. But I am most excited about the toys lol..

Well it has been a busy month for me already and it is only half over. 2 of the books that should be on this list I have already finished. Red Sister by Mark Lawrence and Circle of Reign by Jacob Cooper. Both earned 5 stars from me so off to a great start for the year.  I have received 5 emails in the past 2 days by authors asking me to read their books. I am not going to mention names because I haven’t looked through them all. But a few sound really cool. I will post more about them next month.

When I separated from my wife last year she did the worst thing ever and threw some of my books away. Only 2 boxes but a lot of my Wheel of Time books. Last week  I found these at Goodwill

So my Wheel of Time Collection is almost complete again.

I also received a few E-ARCs that I am excited to get to.

I am sure I have mentioned that I like to meet authors and get things signed. But I wanted to show you a few pages out of my Autograph book.

The reason I am showing you this is because I got a new one. It is right out of Skyrim, and I think its pretty damn cool.

And now the Coolest things I have got all year. I mean within the last 365 days when I say that. I got some downright awesome Doodles.

J.P.’s is above and beyond what I expected, but the amount of time Laura must have spent staring at one of my graphics I can only imagine. I love them both. So I made a new cover combining both of your books.

And here is Laura’s goblin running away with Mr.Ashman’s Cacti.

The poor cacti looks Terrified…….

I was expecting one  book in the mail anytime in the next week or so.I was surprised It arrived all the way from the Netherlands so quickly. But then Femke had to Surprise me again with a second book and Candy canes!! Thanks Femke once again you are awesome

The books are

Sentinel (Ashen Court)

And the One the Only

Twelve Kings in Sharakhai (Song of Shattered Sands)

The Song of the Shattered Sands: Book One

Sharakhai, the great city of the desert, center of commerce and culture, has been ruled from time immemorial by twelve kings — cruel, ruthless, powerful, and immortal. With their army of Silver Spears, their elite company of Blade Maidens and their holy defenders, the terrifying asirim, the Kings uphold their positions as undisputed, invincible lords of the desert. There is no hope of freedom for any under their rule.Or so it seems, until Çeda, a brave young woman from the west end slums, defies the Kings’ laws by going outside on the holy night of Beht Zha’ir. What she learns that night sets her on a path that winds through both the terrible truths of the Kings’ mysterious history and the hidden riddles of her own heritage. Together, these secrets could finally break the iron grip of the Kings’ power…if the nigh-omnipotent Kings don’t find her first.

I already have this one in Audiobook but I am happy to have a paper copy. Now if we could get some authors down to Arizona for a signing I would be set

I should mention I started listening to

The Winds of Khalakovo (The Lays of Anuskaya)

by Bradley P. Beaulieu last night I don’t remember how it got on to my Audible but I “never look a gift book in the spine” as no one has ever said. Except for me, just now. You where here when it happened you know I said it.

The first ATLAS POST

In Greek Mythology there was a god named Atlas. He was the heavy lifter of the ancient world. Keeping the sky from falling to earth by holding it up on his shoulders, Often shown like this.atlas.  That is until Heracles saved him by building the two great Pillars to hold the sky away from the earth, I think I have found one of those pillars!!  It used to be called my  To Be Read pile. Yes even though I have read 275 books around 100,000 pages in 2016 my TBR pile is higher than ever. So I am changing the name of my TBR to  A.T.L.A.S

“Why does it mean?”

Well just like the pillars that saved Atlas my TBR pile is really tall.  But that’s not why I am calling it ATLAS. No  ATLAS is an acronym for

And I never cared for the term Book haul so they will now be called an ATLAS POST.

A confession an Infomercial and a Giveaway

I have a deep dark secret to tell you all. I am embarrassed to say this, but the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem right?

****Trust me I am going somewhere with this*****

Well Here I am admitting I have a problem. I am addicted to books…..Sob….. There I said it! I feel so much better now.  I love my Kindle and all the hundreds of books I have on it. But it is so hard to get them Autographed.  I actually did find a way to do it and I think it looks good, but I am running out of wall space now.

Since I am exposing all of my obvious yet dark secrets Today  The real pride and joy of my collection would be my Autographed first editions.  Pictured bellow. Now I prefer to not have the dust jackets on. It just looks so much better without them, I think. The red book in the center and the one to its right are the same book but the one on the right still has the dust jacket on.

****Almost there I can see my point ahead****

I just bought a Leather-bound and gold leaf special edition of Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson I paid $100

That is really cool and I can’t wait to show it off to the 1’s of people that visit me. But I don’t think it will ever go far from my shelf. But what if you had something that looked as nice but you could use for any book. To protect on the shelf or as something you carried with you. Well now you can! With a custom hand burned wooden Book cover made just for you and your favorite book!

Now how much would you expect to pay for a cover like this?

That’s oddly specific but way  to high guess again!

I will be doing a Giveaway of one of these covers soon But need to Finalize the look myself It will not be a custom one since I need to have it to give it away. I am thinking something like Prince Jorg on the front and Emperor Jorg on the back cover both from books by Mark Lawrence

Or this on the front.

And this on the backbridge-4

Both are from Sanderson’s Stormlight series. But give me your Ideas

Odin grant me the serenity
to accept the Characters  I cannot change;
The courage to critique the books I read;
and wisdom to never chose a book by it’s cover.

My first Book Haul post that is technically not a book haul post

First one while not really a book haul because its a E-book. I mention it because I was just going to look at the first page and ended up staying awake, reading it until 630 am last night. I was given the E-book of Wraith Knight by C.T. Phipps after I posted my review of one of his books. It comes out Tuesday 11/15/16.

wrath knight.jpg

Second one came last week but I never posted photos. Again not technically part of the book haul because I bought them. These are the signed books for the giveaway. It is Paternus by Dyrk Ashton. I actually bought four copies one for me one for my son and the 2 for the  giveaway.

This one is technically not a book haul because I bought it too. I got it from Amazon. I already have this from Audible narrated by Micheal Kramer and really liked it I rated it 5 stars. The author,  Jacob Cooper recently did a lot of work on it though. He cut 34,000 words, then added  around 60,000 words. Kramer just started rerecording it a few days ago and I wanted a paper version so I could compare the two. I was surprised to find it was signed. I asked Jacob and he confirmed it was real.

The final one I did get for free! But it is technically not a book haul because it wasn’t sent by the author or publisher. This one was sent to me by the amazing Femke. She thought I would enjoy it, and I think she was right. It looks great and I love the sticker.
