I had been hearing of this book for far too long before I actually got myself a copy. Then I put it on my old Kindle it wouldn’t open as a kindle book. It would only open like a text document and then the  formatting was messed up. This had nothing to do with the book  I am sure the Kindle had had many other problems. I just wanted to thank the author for getting me to finally buy a new Kindle fire HD. I love my new baby. it’s so perty . But scatterbrained me had moved it into so many different folders trying to get it to work I kind of lost it along the way and it didn’t get uploaded to the new one. So after around 3 months I wondered why it hadn’t come to the top of my ATLAS®™  and I fixed the problem.

While getting the links I put down at the bottom of the review I noticed that the Audiobook just came out a few days ago, and was surprised I hadn’t heard that it was coming out beforehand.  I want to be clear that I didn’t actually listen to the Audiobook but I did listen to the sample because it was narrated by someone I hadn’t heard of before named Dave Cruse.  So I can’t guaranty how well the whole book was done, but  although the voice is a bit unusual I did enjoy the sample. But just click THIS SPOT NO NOT THERE RIGHT HERE then the sample button and try it for yourself.  As for the version I did have once I had the new kindle I didn’t have any problems with it. As a matter of fact I believe I only saw one small error through the whole book, so I would say it was extremely well polished  for a Self Published debut book. And while the cover is fairly simple in design,  you have to admit it’s pretty damn awesome.

Ok now for the story. Its a Epic fantasy tail with humans, fairies, and Dragons.  You also got Wizards and a Paladin. And they are all fighting the big bad evil overlord,  Trum… er I mean Rectar. For such a standard concept  I have to admit I enjoyed it quite a bit. The interplay between the characters was very well done. I kept thinking to myself  “no way this is his first book, the prose is too good.” Also the setting was pretty cool. And there were some good surprises. One I totally should have seen coming and one I did from the very  beginning  but the reveal was perfectly executed in a way that those who had figured it out would still get the warm fuzzies. And talk about warm fuzzies Damn that last paragraph by Darnuir could be the definition of warm fuzzy in the dictionary.

We also get POVs from the bad guys that show them in a new and unexpected light. I am not saying poor demons really just want hugs and keep getting killed for it or anything but there is depth to them that is not fully explored and very intriguing

But there are a few  things that I wasn’t too crazy about. Mostly  notably there are a few really big world building holes that were not answered. I feel those kind of things should be covered in book one of a series.  Like how did the dragons become human looking. They mention the transformation and there is one part with Blane and Darnuir that it could have been explained but it wasn’t. I am sure there is a reason for this and when I read book 2 i’ll probably feel like an idiot, but that’s how i like it. Wait, that didn’t come out right. I think? Oh well  I am sure you know what I mean. I hope so anyway because I sure as hell don’t.  I also don’t get why there are no Dragon/human/fairy Kids running around.  We know it is possible because of one mention of one that had been killed long ago. But that’s it and you put people that  cam make offspring together for a few hundred years, even if most don’t get along, you will get kids eventually. In fact they are usually the ones the books focus on.

Final thoughts

It is a pretty standard epic fantasy as far as the basic plot, But enough twists of the norm to set it apart. Add in to that good dialog and a few tricky surprises and I can’t wait to get to book 2. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Good VS. Evil fantasy. But I also would recommend it to those that prefer the more Grimdark, morally gray type of stories. So, What I am trying to say I guess is that I recommend it to everyone. I give it ….. Wait I should probably announce my new ranking system. Nothing about how I rate has changed just what I call it  I am changing Stars to Little Goblins©. Mostly just so I get to chop up one once in awhile.  But not on this one because it receives 4 whole Little Goblins© out of 5.
