Hobs Review of The Play to Live series by D. Russ

This review covers the whole Play to Live series By D. Rus not just a single book. I listened to the Audio Books Excellently Narrated By Michael Goldstrom

Each of the  7 books are of average length 9 to 12 hours.

A new pandemic – the perma effect – has taken over Earth of the near future. Whenever you play your favorite online game, beware: your mind might merge with the virtual world and dump its comatose host. Woe be to those stuck forever in Tetris! And still they’re the lucky ones compared to those burning alive eternally within the scorched hulls of tank simulators.

I completely love this series.  This plot idea is so awesome I don’t know where to start.
It takes place in Russia in the not to distant future and is told in first person by Max. A Typical Russian guy around 30 years old with no money saved that finds out he is about to die from cancer. In hopes of living on inside a video game he locks himself in a VR pod and logs in to Alterworld in the hope of going Perma.

A few of the books had repetitive parts but hey, its about a guy living in a video game so that kinda thing should be expected.
The fact that is told through Russian eyes gave it a unique twist that my American mind enjoyed a lot when it wasn’t annoying. And by annoying I mean comparing people/events to people/events I have never heard of before. Also max is a bit of a sarcastic ass in his own head which I loved for the most part but at times not so much. Again something lost in translation I think. but anyway I just can’t recommend this series enough!

AlterWorld: Play to Live, Book 1 is one of my favorite Audio Books I have listened to it 5 or 6 times and recommend it to everyone.  Ultimation: Play to Live, Book 7 brings us to one of the best endings to a series I have read in long  time.

I rate the series as a whole 5 out of 5 stars

If any of the following things sound cool to you, then you need to read these books. Sci-fi, Fantasy, MMORPG’s, War, Sarcasm, Killing large Rats, Immortality, an Albino Ogre and his love life, Unicorns, Spies, the Russian Mob, Samurai, Demons, Raid Groups, Castles, Elite Mercenary squads of 90 year old Grandmothers, Sexy Dark Elf girls, Dragons or Giant Bears named Teddy. I know at least one of those things got your attention so go get this series!!
